THE INDUSTRIAL NORTH
‘When you go to the Industrial North you are conscious of entering a strange country’ In the 1930’s the author George Orwell wrote these words in his book ‘The Road to Wigan Pier. Ninety years later the country he described has changed beyond recognition, or has it? Industrialisation has shaped, and continues to shape, the urban landscape of Northern England. In this work I have attempted to explore the legacy industry has left us, and how it has evolved to meet the environmental challenges of the modern world. This is an extract from the forward to my book ‘The Industrial North’. It contains 92 black & white photographs and is on sale for £35.00 plus postage & packing.
